About Me

Piyas Biswas is a multimedia journalist based in Dhaka, Bangladesh with a special interest in Documentary Photography. From his early life Camera had always attracted him. Though he first started shooting as a hobby but soon later discovered his core passion for photography. The natural disasters caused by climate change, the plight of the climate victims, the injustice around him, the effect of political conflicts on the general people, and issues like this have always made him ponder. He uses his vision to document humanity, bring awareness to issues throughout the world focusing on many conflict regions.

Piyas started working on his first photography assignments as a freelancer in 2016. Currently, he is working with Newsbangla24 and is also a contributor to UCA News (a Thailand-based news agency), The Daily Star (A leading national daily of Bangladesh), SOPA IMAGES, and Nur photo.

Piyas has done Basic and Foundation courses on photography from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute in 2015. Then he completed his photography graduation from Counter Foto (A Center for Visual Arts) in 2018, alongside his academic graduation. He received The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung scholarship and obtained his Diploma in Visual Journalism from the Asian Center for Journalism at the Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines).

His works have been published in many national and international newspapers and magazines such as The Guardian, The Sun, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, CNN International, Rest of World, BBC Bangla, Deutsche Welle, The Diplomat, In These Times, Yahoo News, MSN, Forbes, Union of Catholic Asian News, and The Daily Star, etc.
